Day 3: Reading Homeschooling Tip ~ Link Words to Pictures

picture linking

When children learn to read they link words with the pictures in their minds. The more that you can assist this attachment of word to image, the easier it will be for your young readers to understand the words that they are reading. Phonics and phonemes are necessary for decoding and learning to read, but reading comprehension takes place when the words children read are linked to meaning – pictures aid this process. Did you ever wonder why children’s books are full of pictures?

Final word on this subject: Help your children make the connection between images and the written word with pictures that give meaning.
